It’s a fair question. It’s one I’d ask, so I thought I’d share it with you.
I began writing these songs as therapy, a way to process emotions in a constructive way. To try to create something beautiful out of anger and pain, but also to hold onto the relief, the wonder, the joy, the love, the sense of new awakenings and boundless possibilities… all of the many complicated, terrifying, wonderful experiences that come with transition.
I never expected to share them. At first, they were just for me; a way of letting things out. I didn’t expect them to be beautiful, or to be something others could connect with.
But I shared them with people close to me, and what I saw was people connecting with them, with me, and finding relief in that connection. What I received back was encouragement. To keep going. To share more.
So this is me doing that.
This is a place for those who are questioning, for those who are like me, and for those who are simply curious and want to understand.
It’s also a place where I can keep learning how to be open, honest, and vulnerable in all aspects of my life.
The rewards, I’ve found, are more than worth it.
I write, music and otherwise, as a way of making sense of myself, and a way of refusing to disappear again.
