Good morning.
I wanted to take a moment and address what I’m sure is the elephant in the room for some of my visitors. AI.
I’m well aware of the controversy over AI, and the reasons why that controversy exists. There’s a ton of ways in which I am not a fan.
But, it feels like a genie that’s already out of the bottle, and honestly, as a trans woman.. I have enough windmills to tilt at in my life.
And, to be real.. I started these songs as therapy. Where am I going to find a band or bands that’s willing to help me make these songs for basically free?
I didn’t start out planning to share these songs, so I didn’t balk at using AI to improve my mental health. And.. It’s helped to have an outlet.
But.. People close to me who heard them liked them, encouraged me to share them.. And to be honest, there aren’t enough songs out there about the trans experience. Through my transition, I can remember a few times where I found a song that really spoke to me and my experience or feelings. I never knew the musicians and songwriters, but I felt connected. To them. To all other trans people.
We need more of that. We need a lot more.
-I- need a lot more. And if it’s what it takes, I’m happy to roll up my sleeves and start working. I’ve already begun.
I’ve been arguing for trans rights for longer than my own self awareness and transition. I’m never going to stop. But it’s hard to reach people, to get them to open their minds. Very hard.
I feel like it’s easier to reach people with song. That music opens hearts and creates understanding and empathy in ways sometimes reason just can’t.
What I want to do is to help give other trans people a sense of connection, of being understood, of not being so -alone- the way many of us have been.
I want to make songs that speak to cis people. That help them -see- us. To understand. To put cracks in the walls that keep them from being able to feel basic empathy for us.
If AI is the tool I use, so be it. But…
If you’re a musician, or in a band, and you like my lyrics? You can get behind what I want to do with music? Let me know, I’m interested.
